5^th Annual Ultimate Cake Decorating Competition Scheduled for November 13 at the Mall of America

“Celebrating Our Winter Wonderland” and “My Royal  Wedding “  will be this year’s themes as professional cake decorators compete for over $2500 in cash prizes at the 5th Ultimate Cake Decorating Competition.  The contest will be held in the east rotunda of the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN on Sunday, November 13 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The contest is sponsored by the Upper Midwest Bakery Association and is open to decorators from member retail bakeries, cake shops and in-store bakeries throughout the upper Midwest.

Decorators will compete in a timed competition before a live audience at the Mall of America. In the birthday cake competition, decorators will decorate a cake and 24 matching cupcakes during a 90 minute period. They will have the option of doing a sheet cake or a sculpted cake using their choice of icing. All work will be done on site.

The wedding cake competition will have two person teams competing to do a 5 tier or larger wedding cake in their choice of icing that represents “ My Royal Wedding Cake”   The wedding competition runs from 1:15 p.m. to 4 p.m.

This contest is open to professional decorators who work for UMBA member bakeries. Cake decorators will have a chance to compete for the $500 per person top prize in each category plus cash and gifts for second and third places.  Decorators can compete in one or both categories. Up to two decorators or two teams per member bakery.  The registration deadline is October 8, 2011. Entrants will be chosen based on their portfolio.

 Along with the competition the UMBA will also be hosting cupcake decorating for children from 11- 4 p.m.

The Ultimate Cake Decorating Competition is sponsored by the UMBA in conjunction with vendors from the industry.
